Curator‘s note:

The 2025 MINT CFF curatorial workshop continues to highlight the work of female curators and artists, with a particular focus on curatorial practices within archives and the visual arts in the realm of moving images this year. We are glad to invite Nell Cardozo, Curatorial Director at 16 Collective, (formerly 16 Nicholson Street) and Engagement & Development Officer for the Hippodrome Silent Film Festival, as our keynote speaker. Nell will use the Canal Films Project (now titled What the Water Remembers - The Dark Mirror) as a case study to demystify the process and methods behind creating the new film through archival footage and creative collaboration. Filmmaker and visual artist Yang Yuanyuan will join us as a special guest after the Saturday re-peat screening of her directorial debut, Chinatown Cha-Cha, which was selected for our C-FILMS IN FOCUS feature film competition section. Together with Mint CFF curators and all of you, let's explore exciting new ideas for curatorial and artistic collaborations in this workshop (Yixiang Shirley Lin)!

Workshop Objective:

This workshop explores What the Water Remembers, a curatorial and artistic project that merges archival film, contemporary visual art, live music, and community engagement to illuminate hidden histories and foster new interpretations of local heritage. Participants will gain insights into curating multimedia projects, working with archival material, and involving communities in storytelling and exhibition design (Nell Cardozo).
